Get the Right Acoustic Panels Made for Modern Office Interiors | Amazone By Furnitech

When you’re choosing acoustic panels for an office, it’s surprisingly easy to focus on the part that looks good in a mood board and overlook what will actually make a difference once the panels are installed. Open-plan offices require careful consideration of factors such as panel coverage, acoustic performance, placement, thickness, finish, and installation method, all of which can affect the result. Two panels can look almost identical but perform quite differently once they’re used across a larger space.

We’ve been looking into this from the practical side of office interiors for more than two decades, comparing the specifications, finishes, applications, and installation considerations that come up when sourcing acoustic products in India. With more than 1,500 corporate partners who use Amazone By Furnitech’s acoustic panels and ceilings tiles, with that we’ve gained insight into how these products perform across different workplace environments.

There’s also a useful distinction between what a manufacturer or supplier lists on a spec sheet and what makes sense for a particular office layout. If you’re currently planning an office fit-out, the goal is less about finding the best acoustic panel and more about finding the right combination of acoustic performance, coverage, appearance, and installation practicality for the space.

Acoustic Panel Types: Which One Fits Your Office?

Fibre glass wool acoustic panels built around a fibreglass core trap sound within their fibrous structure rather than letting it bounce off a hard surface, which is why they are commonly used in office ceilings. They combine lightweight construction with strong sound absorption, fit into standard suspended grids, and, being made from glass rather than an organic material, do not sustain flame in the same way some other cores can.

Amazone By Furnitech’s fibre glass wool acoustic panels come in black and white, with a choice of Square, Tegular, or Microlook edge profiles. This allows the same underlying panel to suit either a bright, standard-looking office ceiling or a darker, more industrial finish without switching materials. It’s sized at 1200 x 300mm and 1200 x 600mm, in 15mm or 20mm thickness, NRC rated up to 0.90.

Fabric-wrapped acoustic panels have a fibreglass core wrapped in fabric, functioning as much as an interior finish as they do a technical product. The fabric layer allows sound to pass through to the absorbent core while giving the surface a soft, upholstered look rather than a flat, technical one, which is why these panels are generally used in meeting rooms and cabins rather than open floors.

Amazone By Furnitech‘s fabric wrapped acoustic panels goes up to 1200 x 1200mm at 25mm thickness, finished in a jute-style weave across 12 standard shades that suit a particular room’s palette. It’s NRC rated up to 0.95.

Polyester fibre acoustic panels are made from compressed polyester fibre, often recycled, generally the more practical choice for covering larger wall areas. Since the colour runs through the material itself rather than sitting as a separate outer layer, they are straightforward to cut and finish without extra steps.

Amazone By Furnitech’s polyester fibre acoustic panels come as 2440 x 1220 mm sheets in 9 mm or 12 mm thicknesses. Both options offer a wide colour range, with 41 shades for the thinner option and 21 for the thicker one, which tends to matter more for larger wall runs where maintaining colour consistency across multiple panels can be more challenging. The 9 mm option has an NRC rating of up to 0.70, while the 12 mm option has an NRC rating of up to 0.85.

Wood wool acoustic boards are made from woven wood fibres and bring a natural, textured surface that reads as a design feature, rather than just an acoustic treatment. This is generally why they are chosen for spaces that want a warmer, more organic look than a flat panel provides.

Amazone By Furnitech’s wood wool acoustic boards come in 600 x 600 mm or 1200 x 600 mm sizes, in square or rectangular formats, with 15 mm, 20 mm, or 25 mm thicknesses. They can be painted in practically any colour while retaining their acoustic performance, which is useful for projects that want the texture without being limited to a raw, unfinished look. It is rated up to an NRC of 0.70.

MDF acoustic panels are dense fibreboard panels with a grooved or perforated face, generally chosen where the finish needs to read as furniture or millwork rather than a technical acoustic product. Reception desks and boardroom walls are common examples.

Amazone By Furnitech’s MDF acoustic panels come in 2440 x 128 mm or 2440 x 195 mm sizes, with 16 mm or 18 mm thicknesses and 10 shade options. They are available in MDF, HDF, or HDMR board types, with the denser HDF and HDMR options better suited to areas with more moisture or foot traffic than standard MDF. The panels provide sound absorption of up to 0.70 NRC.

Acoustic baffles are vertical hanging strips generally used on open or high ceilings, since they absorb sound from multiple angles as air moves around them and do not need a flat mounting surface or grid the way a standard panel does.

Amazone By Furnitech’s baffles measure 2400 x 300 mm with a thickness of 30 mm and are available in white, with an NRC rating of up to 0.90. They can also be customised in size, shape, and layout to fit a specific ceiling plan rather than following a fixed, uniform spacing.

Acoustic ceiling clouds are suspended, shaped panels generally used to visually zone an open floor plan, marking out a breakout area or collaboration corner while treating the ceiling above it at the same time.

Amazone By Furnitech’s ceiling clouds are available in circular sizes of 600, 900, and 1200 mm diameter, as well as rectangular formats up to 2700 x 1200 mm. They are available in a range of designs, including circles, squares, hexagons, waves, curves, and custom shapes. They come in 30 mm or 40 mm thicknesses, are available in white, and have an NRC rating of up to 0.95, offering enough shape variety to create a specific visual pattern rather than a uniform grid of identical panels.

Beyond a standard catalogue, some suppliers also offer design services built around a client’s own file rather than a fixed product.

Amazone By Furnitech offers two custom design services: CNC-cut PET acoustic panels, which are cut from polyester fibre panels in over 41 colours into geometric patterns, logos, or decorative perforations. The second is custom acoustic ceiling clouds, which can be shaped and finished to match existing panels or created as a standalone ceiling feature. Both tend to be used where a reception area, boardroom, or feature wall needs the acoustic treatment itself to double as a branding or design element, rather than appearing as a plain functional surface.

How Modern Offices Are Being Used Differently

A few shifts in how offices operate day to day are worth factoring in alongside the product choice itself:

Hybrid work has increased video-call volume noticeably, which makes acoustic treatment inside phone booths and small meeting rooms matter more than it did when most calls happened from a landline at a fixed desk.

Fewer fixed private offices generally mean more open floor space, and with fewer walls naturally breaking up noise, broader ceiling coverage across the open plan tends to carry more of the acoustic workload than it used to.

Interior design in modern offices increasingly leans on natural materials and branded design features rather than plain functional panels, which is where a custom design service, such as CNC-cut acoustic panels or shaped ceiling clouds, becomes genuinely useful rather than a nice-to-have. It lets the acoustic treatment double as part of the design brief instead of sitting apart from it.

A Practical Approach to Acoustic Panels Selection

None of the acoustic panels above is a universal best choice for a modern office. The right one depends on the specific zone, the look the interior design is going for, and how much of the floor actually needs treating. What matters more than any single product is comparing real specification sheets, like the ones set out above, rather than relying on a generic product description that could apply to almost anything.

For projects sourcing multiple panel types within a single office, working with a supplier that offers the full range can simplify the process considerably. For example, Amazone By Furnitech offers all seven products and two design services covered here. Sourcing from one documented catalogue makes it easier to coordinate finishes, colours, and lead times across the entire fit-out. Need help narrowing down the options for your office? TL;DR

Modern office acoustic panels should be selected according to the space’s layout, noise levels, design requirements, and sound absorption needs. Fibre glass wool panels suit suspended ceilings, fabric-wrapped panels work well in meeting rooms, and polyester fibre panels offer versatile wall coverage. Wood wool boards and MDF panels add distinctive finishes, while acoustic baffles and ceiling clouds help manage sound in open-plan areas. Amazone By Furnitech also offers CNC-cut PET panels and custom ceiling clouds for tailored designs, making it easier to coordinate acoustic performance and aesthetics across different office zones.
